CHAPTER

TWENTY-SIX

I was in and out of consciousness as Kal drove me to Kane, who screamed angrily. And even through my brain fog, I could feel powerful bursts of energy shooting from him. Eventually, I awoke again to the deep melodic sound of his voice with a crowd of people.

“Do you know how creepy it is to sleep amongst a room full of people?” I asked out loud. Everyone stood, and Kal and Vish came up and grabbed my hands.

“I’m going to fucking murder that asshole,” Vish spat.

“You’d die before you even lifted your sword.” Kal side-eyed him, his voice bored and annoyed.

“I’m going to heal you.” As Meili worked, healing everything but my pride, I looked up to a red-glowing Kane pacing back and forth, shaking in a rage at a distance, unable to get close to me. His hands were covered in ice, and I was glowing red when I looked down at myself.

“What’s with the red?” Garwein asked as I noticed he and Migor were here too.

“Don’t worry about it.” Kane snapped at them with a brutal growl, causing them to flinch in surprise. He was never this agitated, like a lion trapped in a cage, raging to escape.

“He’s resisting the bond. We’re in a state of repulsion. I bet he can’t even come closer to me if he tried because of the energy force,” I said quietly.

“Is this true?” Kal’s head jerked to Kane, his eyes wide and looking at him with disappointment.

“Kane, what the hell?” Merick responded.

“It’s nobody’s business but mine and Cyra’s,” he said through his teeth.

“Cyra—is this what you want?” Merick asked in shock.

Kane started to ice further, causing the room to drop in temperature. Everyone immediately stopped asking questions.

“I’ve never seen anything like that, Cyra,” Garwein said, changing the subject. “You gave him a damn good run for his money—I will never in my life forget the look of shock on his face.” He shook his head in disbelief and chuckled, looking at Migor, who nodded in agreement.

“Well, I’m thoroughly pissed. It feels like my tutors have been taking it easy on me if that’s how a Curadh really fights.” My ego was bruised at how badly my ass was handed to me, and it reinforced the fact that even though I was significantly improving, I wasn’t where I needed to be. But I was brought out of my self-chiding when Kane cursed, and his power surge cracked and shattered the glass window. Meili was the only one brave enough to move, walking to the window to fix it.

After a moment, Kal jerked to his feet, his nostrils flaring. “Ondour has a tendency of fighting dirty, and he was fighting with a vendetta. He was trying to punish you, which is an utter disgrace to the Curadh. Our duty is to train and prepare you for what is to come, Cyra. Not to pulverize you to within inches of death. He got into my mind and sent me on a fake errand that I thought was requested by the king.
